How do you introduce yourself without your job, title, or nationality?
How do you introduce yourself without your job, title, or nationality?
This Tuesday, I had the chance to join one of my best friends Ryan Lim's soft launch event for a new community — EXPATREN — he is building for Global Expats in Taiwan. The slogan "where staying becomes belonging" really struck me.
Although I usually see myself as more of a rational girl, the event made me feel part of a warm and intentional community. It reminded me how powerful it is when people create spaces that feel authentic, inclusive, and grounded in local life.
That's the kind of work Ryan hopes to dedicate himself to: creating authentic, inclusive communities where people can engage openly, share freely, and shape the future of digital identity and technology.
For me, this means bringing conversations into everyday spaces so that people can learn and participate where they already are — without talking about job titles and business.
I'm excited to see how EXPATREN grows, and grateful for the reminder that belonging often begins with small but meaningful gatherings like this one.
